Bishop George Thiong'o's life is a remarkable testimony to the power of faith, resilience, and unwavering commitment to a divine calling. Born in 1971 in the Mathare slums of Nairobi, Kenya, George faced immense hardships from an early age. Growing up in one of the most impoverished and challenging environments, his childhood was marked by the struggle for basic necessities and the absence of his father, who passed away shortly before his birth. Raised by his grandmother and mother, who worked tirelessly to provide for the family, George's early life was defined by adversity.
Despite the numerous obstacles, George nurtured a dream of becoming a pastor. His journey through education was fraught with difficulties, including frequent school changes due to financial hardships. Yet, his determination to pursue his calling never wavered. George's spiritual journey began in earnest in 1984 when he came under the guidance of Apostle Evans Mulima. It was here that he learned about prayer, soul-winning, and other fundamental aspects of Christian life, laying the foundation for his future ministry.
In 1994, with the support of the late Pastor Steve, George gained admission to BTC Bible School. Although financial challenges persisted, his dedication and faith saw him through. During his time at the Bible school, George received a calling to engage in evangelism in Nairobi's Industrial Area. He conducted open-air crusades, which led to the birth of Agape Fellowship Ministry. The name "Agape" was chosen to reflect the unconditional love and support he had received from those around him.
Agape Fellowship Ministry began its humble journey in the Lunga Lunga slums, facing numerous challenges, including eviction and the demolition of a newly constructed church. Despite these setbacks, George's unwavering faith and leadership enabled the ministry to grow and expand its reach. Today, Agape Fellowship Ministry has established branches in various areas, including Kwa Reuben, Mlolongo, Umoja, and Kamulu, continuing its mission to serve and uplift communities.
Bishop George Thiong'o's life is a powerful testament to overcoming adversity and realizing dreams through faith. His achievements include not only the growth of Agape Fellowship Ministry but also the establishment of the Tammy Agape Learning Center, which addresses education-related issues in the slums. Under his leadership, the ministry has initiated various programs to provide quality education, healthcare access, and spiritual nourishment to vulnerable communities.
In 1997, George married Rev. Mary Thiong'o, and together they have three children: Lawrence, Sammy, and Joseph. George's journey from a slum-dwelling boy to a respected bishop and pastor is an inspiration to many. He has traveled extensively, sharing his message and expanding the ministry's influence to countries such as Egypt, Uganda, Tanzania, South Africa, Dubai, Congo, India, Israel, Liberia, Nigeria, and the USA.
Bishop George Thiong'o's story is a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and the transformative impact of a dedicated life. His journey serves as an inspiration for all to overcome challenges and pursue their divine purpose with unwavering commitment. As the founder and lead pastor of Agape Fellowship Ministry, Bishop George continues to lead with a heart full of compassion, guiding his congregation towards spiritual growth, community service, and the fulfillment of God's calling.
